Sheriff’s deputies in Houston mistakenly opened fire on a woman they believed to be an intruder in her friend’s apartment, as shown in recently released body camera footage. The woman, identified as Eboni Pouncy, was shot five times during the incident. Her attorney, Ben Crump, has called for the release of the deputies’ body camera footage. Despite authorities claiming that Pouncy was holding a gun, the video has been described by Crump as evidence of unnecessary and excessive force. The incident occurred after deputies responded to a call reporting an intruder but found no one in the apartment. They were alerted to a possible break-in at a nearby apartment and encountered Pouncy holding a firearm, resulting in the shooting. The deputies have been put on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. The district attorney’s office is also conducting an independent investigation.
