In a recent discovery, a journalist who reported on the issue found that they were also impacted by this data sharing. The journalist’s husband received consumer disclosure files, revealing detailed information about their driving habits. The data was obtained through data brokers that work with the insurance industry and had been provided by General Motors (G.M.). Despite not enrolling in G.M.’s connected services plan or Smart Driver program, their driving data was still collected.
