The Tokyo city government plans to launch a dating app this year to encourage single citizens to get married. The app is part of Japan’s efforts to increase its low birthrate. The government has been running a test program called ‘Tokyo Futari Story,’ which matches individuals using artificial intelligence. The app asks users to provide identification documents and take a diagnostic test to learn about their values and preferences. The fee-based version of the app will require users to sign a pledge stating they are serious about finding a marriage partner. The city has invested $1.28 million in the project.
