In prison, Rahsaan Thomas found solace in long-distance running as a way to cope with his lengthy sentence. He joined San Quentin State Prison’s 1000 Mile Club and discovered that running helped him focus on one step at a time and reminded him of home. The club, run by volunteer coaches from Tamalpa Running Club, started as a small group but has grown to over 50 members. Running helps inmates focus on goals and improve their diet and overall well-being. Thomas, along with other inmates, will be featured in a film called ‘26.2 to Life’. The program aims to help prisoners reclaim their humanity and reduce recidivism rates.
