Russia dismissed Ukraine’s attempts to invite former Soviet allies to a peace summit in Switzerland, claiming the invitations had been rejected by neighboring countries. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia criticized Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and his Western allies for their unsuccessful efforts. Russia is protective of its influence over the CIS, a group of countries that includes Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. In a separate incident, a Russian missile attack on Dnipro caused injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure. Russian air defenses also intercepted Ukrainian drones in the border region of Kursk.
